Duisburg is situated on the western edge of the Ruhr, in one of the most thickly populated regions of Europe. As a result it benefits from a first-class infrastructure and excellent transport connections. A closely woven network of railroads and motorways is supplemented by the neighbouring airports in Dortmund, Weeze and Cologne/Bonn, all of them reachable in 50 minutes or less. The Düsseldorf International airport can be reached in as little as 20 minutes.

This means that major European cities like London, Amsterdam, Paris and Brussels are effectively just as close as Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt or Berlin.
