Open Air

The outside area - a playground without frontiers!

It's ideal for the really big open-air feeling: the bunker forecourt in front of the impressive backdrop of the blast furnace offers generous facilities for spectacle, and whets the appetite for major events with audiences of up to 15,000. The Piazza Metallica, Sinterplatz and Steinhallenplatz are suitable venues for open-air functions that do not require so much space.

Have you set your sights high? Do you want to make use of the full width of the playing field - and perhaps the length is an essential factor too? Well then - the outside grounds of the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park can transform your big event into a major attraction. Just the backdrop, looking like the stage set for a film, is an attraction in itself. There is enough open space on offer for any kind of activity, with different "theatres" (which can run separately) for mega-events and major occasions - all-day festivals where young and old and big and small will find plenty to amuse them, not to speak of the open air presentations at the Piazza Metallica or the Steinhallenplatz.

The Park can also provide the solid base that is required for high-flying plans. All the infrastructure and the expertise that major events call for is available. And what else would you expect - seeing that up to 1985 this was a place where thousands of workers earned their daily bread, there can hardly be a shortage of parking space. Where industrial cathedrals lift their bulk into the heavens, you get some unique prospects. The park will define the framework for your programme, and will also suggest possible highlights: climbing excursions to the top of the blast furnace, or sliding parties ending in the storage bunker. Whatever your plans, whatever the scale of your ideas, the Landscape Park can define a framework in which events become real happenings.
